“If you’re looking to make your app smarter and you think machine learning is more complicated than making three API calls, then you’re reading the right blog post.” —

Prediction API: Every app a smart app - The official Google Code blog

This is super cool but scares me a bit. Google’s insatiable appetite for data is staggering.

“This is fundamentally a different kind of social news experience. I haven’t seen or used anything quiet like it before. Rather than me reading what you tweet, I read the stream that you have selected to read — your inbound stream. It’s almost as if I’m leaning over your shoulder — reading what you read, or looking at your book shelves: it allows me to understand how the people I follow construct their world.” —

news.me | THINK / Musings

news.me is amazing - certainly the UI. I haven’t really experienced the rest of it in a meaningful way yet -  but all signs point to impressive.  I love the idea of reading over somebody”s shoulder. We did this w/ the social layer on NYTimes, Timespeople, a couple years ago. See what I am seeing from the people I follow on NYTimes.  It wasn’t the most loved feature but I thought it did a great job around discovery.  Congrats to all involved in making news.me happen.

“When Jeff Hammerbacher laments that “The best minds of my generation are thinking about how to make people click ads,” I think he’s falling for a technocratic idea long discredited, one that only engineers still believe: perfectibility.” —Reaction Wheel: Advertising, the Fallacy of Perfectibility, and the Best Minds of My Generation

I am not sure people outside the AdTech world are paying enough attention to RTB. Cool interface too.
